Midnight close for new Restaurant in Newtown

P&D Item 4 169 King Street Newtown -
A new restaurant for King Street has a recommendation to change their operating hours from 3am back to midnight and limits use of first floor as restaurant only and not a bar following 20 objections from local residents. I will continue to stress the need that Newtown must maintains its culture of diversity and fine grained interest and not copycat the Oxford path of large pubs and nightclubs dominating the strip. A smart boutique bar restaurant such as this will help maintain King Streets reputation as an interesting and vibrant place to visit.

Yes and chop back the hours even further if residents continue to complain. The restaurant owner pays no rates- they are just renters.

If you believe council must not continue to have pubs and clubs dominate a streetscape why don't you come out and support Springfield Avenue, KX, residents in their fight against a mega 1450 person 4 storey pub/club right under their bedroon windows. Bill

As far as I am aware I have not expressed a public view about the proposal for the old westpac bank. though I know that Clover Moore has expressed support for the hotel restuarant application. Without seeing the assesment report by our staff (not available yet) I am sympathetic to getting a busniness happening at this site and helping to rejuvinate the Darlinghurst area. However I am also well aware of the Springfield Ave residents' concerns and will be making sure that the design and operation have conditions so as to minimise the feared impacts. Council committee will be the place to express your views more fully. Shayne
